Here’s an overview of the PADI certification path:

1. Discover scuba diving – your first underwater adventure

If you’re curious about scuba diving but not ready to commit to a full certification course, Discover Scuba Diving experiences are the perfect first step.
No prior experience is required, and you’ll practice basic skills in shallow water under the guidance of a professional instructor.

2. Open Water Diver – your full certification

The Open Water Diver course is the first full certification level and allows you to dive independently with a buddy up to 18 meters (60 feet).

The course generally includes:

  • Dive theory (online or classroom)
  • Confined water practice
  • 4 open water dives on real reefs

Upon completion, you’ll be a certified diver with a license valid worldwide.

3. Advanced Open Water Diver – explore deeper and further

Already certified? Take the next step with the Advanced Open Water Diver course.
This certification allows you to dive up to 30 meters (100 feet) deep, opening up new dive sites and experiences.

At Takata Experience, the Advanced course includes five adventure dives:

  • Deep Dive (required): Learn how to safely dive beyond 18 meters and manage the effects of pressure.
  • Underwater Navigation (required): Improve your compass skills and learn how to navigate natural landmarks.
  • Three elective dives which depend on the location, which may include:
    • Peak Performance Buoyancy
    • Fish Identification
    • Night Diving
    • Drift Diving
    • Search and Recovery

The course is designed to be flexible, allowing you to focus on the types of diving that interest you most.

ADVANCED OPEN WATER

4. Rescue Diver – Learn to prevent and manage problems

The Rescue Diver course is one of the most rewarding and challenging certifications.
You’ll learn how to prevent accidents, respond to emergencies, and assist other divers in distress, all while building your confidence.

The fastest way is our PADI Open Water Diver course, which takes just three to four days. You complete the theory online beforehand, allowing us to jump straight into the confined water practice. After that, you enjoy four ocean dives to earn your full worldwide certification.
